Black Bird Film Festival

Staged each spring in the beautiful York Performance Hall, the Black Bird Film Festival provides a venue for short narrative and documentary films that Anderson University students produce as class and independent projects. The festival also features the work of alumni and guests.
“The festive, red-carpet event has become one of the premier activities on campus each spring,” says cinema professor Jack Lugar. “Winners in various categories—such as best picture and best director—receive trophies that we refer to as ‘the coveted Squawkies.’”
The admission-free festival typically takes place toward the end of second semester and is open to students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and film buffs. In 2020, the local Folgate Agency, affiliated with Allstate, became the official sponsor of the event.
